chapter. I love

Letter from Morgan N’siah:
To
the amazing, super cool, really pretty girls of JK BBG,
“I think we
miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel
something."—Crash
What
happens when the spirit runs out, the inspiration goes flat, and
the desire goes missing. I wish I could say that I knew exactly what would
happen but whatever it is, it wouldn’t be good. I am here to make sure that
nothing like that EVER happens.
In case you don’t
know me that well (which I hope you all do) let me
give you some insight. I was born in Los Angeles, California and someday I will
get back there. I go to Greenhill School and sometimes I love it, and other
times I hate it. I have a strange obsession with the O.C. and vicariously live
through that show, drink way to much Starbucks, and love hanging out with my
friends. Although you wouldn’t think it, I am interested in politics and hope
to eventually work in that field. So basically, I am just your typically Jewish
teenage girl.
This
is the first chance that I have had to formally thank all of you.
Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to lead, serve, and give back to
this chapter I have been so lucky to call my home. Know that each decision the
board and myself has and will continue to make are done with the best of
intentions. This brings me to the exec board…
These girls are fantastic. This will be my third time to serve on exec
board and I have NEVER seen a
group of girls more dedicated and passionate about what they do. If you need
anything at all they are your go to gals!!!
If you ever do miss that touch and feel like you need to “crash into
each other” don’t hesitate. Occasionally we all feel like that, and all we need
is a little help. If there is ANYTHING I can do for you…and really anything…please,
please, please don’t
hesitate to call, IM, facebook (etc.) me. I would love to hear from you.
With that…

The Magic of CLTC:
People are
not lying when they say that
CLTC is the best two weeks of your life. People do not joke that the
others you meet will become your best friends for life. People are 100%
serious when they say that you get so much out of CLTC and learn the ways of
BBYO.
Kravitz, CLTC changed me as a person, as a
member of Kravitz, as a member of BBYO, and as a Jew. CLTC (Chapter
Leadership Training Conference) is approximately two weeks of Judaism,
laughter, friendship, creativity, education and leadership. At CLTC, a
day feels like a week, but a week feels like a day.
It is at this summer
program where you will
find your BBG passion and live amongst BBYOers who have the same goals and
aspirations as you do. You will meet people from across the country and
you will bounce ideas off each other, learning how to plan the perfect program
or hold your executive board together.
I attended CLTC 1 2006 at Camp Beber in
Wisconsin. I went with two other Kravitz girls: Morgan Fine and Sara
Greenberg. I was put in a dorm with the most amazing group of girls in
the entire world. My dorm became my CLTC chapter, Magniv BBG #114.
Even though these chapters are just CLTC chapters, we each had a job to do in
some way or another. I was elected MIT MOM, but other jobs were the other
exec positions, banner making, cheer making, shirt designing, etc.
CLTC is a hands on learning experience
that will
mold and shape you into a true leader. You will truly get to see why this
organization is so amazing; you will see how awesome it is for us to be youth
lead because you and your peers are the leaders at CLTC. If there is one
summer program that I would recommend each and every person to attend, it would
be CLTC, hands down. CLTC is an opportunity for you to grow and mature
into the BBYO leader you never imagined you could become.

Hottie
of the Month:
GREG ><
Gregory
Ehrlich was born on March 19, 1990.
He was recently voted hottie of the month
by a record breaking 99% of
Kravitz’s members. On weekends,
Greg enjoys attending amazing Kravitz projects, hooking up with the famous A.R.
and chilling with his newest girlfriend, “it’s complicated”. Greg is funny, caring, ambitious, and
good-looking.
He attends Plano
West Senior high school and is Kravitz beau. He is such an amazing role model. Greg also loves University of Texas football, Friday
night lights, Desperate
Housewives, the Dallas
Cowboys and many more interesting things.
Someone who recently hung out with Greg
posted on his Facebook wall,
"last night was fun, we should hang out more often". This
describes all of our feelings
after a night with Greg. Some
people even call this bundle of love “stuff Muffin” this is what Abby Tarlo
calls Greg. Greg also gets
pleasure in driving many girls around, "Greg is a pretty good
driver," says Freshman Jessica Petrocchi. A very special girl to Greg, Megan, his girlfriend, said, “He's
really funny and he cracks me up all the time and he's just as obsessed with
Texas as I am.”
We all love to be
around Greg because of his amazing personality and his funny jokes and that’s
why he is this month’s hottie of the month.

Darfur:
Darfur., a name that most Americans
today have heard of, but do not really know its meaning. Maybe you have seen those bright green
shirts, or saw something about a Darfur rally in the news, but are not really
able to explain the situation to someone else. What’s happening in Darfur now is said to be the equivalent
of a second holocaust, and it is important for us to be informed and make a difference.
Located
in the western region of Sudan, Darfur was the home to
over two million citizens that were raped, murdered, or driven from their homes
by the militarily run government, the Janjaweed. What is called genocide, or the systematic killing of all
the people from a national, ethnic, or religious group. The Arabic Africans are in control, and
have taken upon themselves the duty of wiping out Africa’s original ethnic
groups. Because of
the harsh conditions
thrown upon them, thousand of Africans are dying each month from malnutrition,
lack of proper heath care, poor shelters, and violence. Some of the atrocities the Janjaweed
have committed upon the black Africans are: bombing, raping, pillaging,
inflaming, and murdering. These
acts happened every single day in Darfur, and are not stopping anytime soon.
It is very important that we
do all that we can to help those
suffering in Darfur. A
few ways
that we can make a difference are:
1. CONTACT
THE MEDIA: The more the media covers the story, the faster the
knowledge of the situation will spread, the more people will take action. It is important for even the average
person to show that they care, because the media aims to appeal to the U.S. and
we need to show THEM what’s really important and that we care about
Darfur.
2. SUPPORT
RELIEF EFFORTS: There are tons of organizations you
can donate money to in order to show that you care. Being that the citizens of Darfur can not even afford proper
shelter, financial contributions are greatly needed. One fun way to donate your money is by buying a SAVE DARFUR
t-shirt. Many different
organizations have come up with different designs, including Yavneh’s
HELP.
Activism is cool, and
showing that you care is even cooler.
3. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW: By teaching others about Darfur and getting more people
involved, the situation is bound to improve, and hopefully, we will soon see an
end to the Janjaweed’s harsh rule.

Life on the Exec Board:
For
many people, standing in front of 30 plus girls telling them why they should
vote for you is extremely nerve racking. For others, it is an adrenaline rush.
For me, it was a combination of both. This being my second term on the exec
board as your MIT mom, I have felt both: that nausea at the pit of my stomach,
and the adrenaline rush.
But
the feelings do not stop here. They have constantly reoccurred throughout my
term as MIT mom, and they still do. I have felt butterflies right before
beginning a project that I have helped plan for weeks, and once it ends with much
success, I have felt that adrenaline rush once again.
With
these feelings and even more, being on the board of this absolutely amazing
chapter has been one of the most memorable experiences in my life so far. I
have learned how to be much more responsible, I have learned my duties not only
as a board member but also a member just like you girls, and I have been
inspired.
Being
on board is not about the title, it is about the action. The exec board puts
hours of effort into this chapter. We have a minimum of one meeting per month,
we set dates, confirm projects, and spend hours doing endless amounts of work
for you girls. Without a functioning executive board, the chapter cannot excel.
This can only happen with an exec board that cooperates with each other, and a
chapter that wants to be the best it can be. This terms board is very young,
and with our lack of an advisor added to that, we have to put forth that much
more effort than in the past.
Don’t
get me wrong, being on board is not just work. We have our fun too. The eight
of us have already become inseparable. With our exec board overnight we spent
hours bonding and discussing where the chapter is now and where we want it to
be when we give up our positions and welcome in the next board. We go to dinner
during the week, whether it is to discuss BBYO, or just for fun. We talk all
the time, send out unreasonable amounts of emails, call to laugh or cry, and so
much more. Being on board is an amazing experience, one that everyone should
have the opportunity to experience.
